Akpoyime Okpeke is a seasoned lecturer and researcher with over seven years of experience in engineering education, academic leadership, and hands-on technical training. He currently serves as the Coordinating Head of the Department of Welding and Fabrication Engineering Technology at the Federal Polytechnic Ekowe, Bayelsa State, Nigeria, where he plays a pivotal role in curriculum development, student mentorship, and departmental administration.
He has held several vital academic and administrative roles, including Examination and Timetable Officer for the School of Engineering (2023–2025), and is an active member of the School Examination Committee. He also serves on the Accreditation Committees for both the Mechanical Engineering Technology and the Welding and Fabrication Engineering Technology departments. In recognition of his contributions to academic governance, he was appointed a member of the Polytechnic’s Academic Board in 2025, a role he continues to hold.
Mr. Okpeke holds a background in Agricultural and Environmental Engineering and has developed expertise in several interdisciplinary areas. His specialisations include welding and fabrication, agricultural and environmental engineering, renewable energy systems, irrigation technologies, power systems, and agricultural machinery. He is also passionate about Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), focusing on aligning engineering education with national development goals and Industry 4.0 standards.
In addition to his academic and research work, Mr. Okpeke is highly skilled in the use of computer-aided design, engineering software, book formatting for Journal and conference Proceedings. His technical proficiency includes AutoCAD, SolidWorks, FreeCAD, CorelCAD, and CorelDRAW, which he integrates into his teaching and project supervision to expose students to industry-standard tools.
