• A brief statement outlining the department core academic activities and initiatives

Introduction to the Department of Mineral and Petroleum Engineering

The Department of Mineral and Petroleum Engineering is dedicated to advancing knowledge and fostering innovation in the extraction, processing, and management of mineral and petroleum resources. Through a dynamic curriculum and cutting-edge research, the department equips students with the technical expertise and problem-solving skills necessary for the evolving energy and extractive industries.
Our academic programs cover a broad spectrum of disciplines, including mineral processing technology, drilling technology, material science, geology & Geophysics, mining technology, and petroleum engineering technology. In addition, foundational and applied courses such as engineering mathematics, engineering thermodynamics, safety and environmental control, statistics, basic workshop technology, and descriptive geometry ensure a well-rounded engineering education.
Beyond classroom learning, the department actively engages in industry collaborations, research initiatives, and hands-on training, preparing students to tackle real-world challenges in resource exploration, production, and sustainability. Our commitment to safety, environmental stewardship, and technological advancement positions graduates for impactful careers in the global energy and mining sectors.
The department of mineral and petroleum resources was approved by National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) in 2022 under the present Rector Dr. Agbabiakar Lukman Adegoke. The department has seven (7) fully equipped state of the arts laboratories with highly trained academics both locally and internationally.
The training and retraining of academic staff have been intentional since the accreditation of the department with the aim of providing highly capable teaching and non-teaching staff to carry out their duties unhindered.
