It thrives in coastal waters with mud bottoms and is often seen near the shore, though it also enters estuaries and lagoons for reproduction. During the rainy season, it moves offshore for spawning. This species can grow up to 62.5 cm in length and typically reaches maturity at around 19.1 cm. Its body is fusiform, laterally compressed, and it has a characteristic large, oblique mouth. Its coloration varies, with silver-grey hues and a reddish sheen, and during the reproductive period, the belly turns yellowish. The Bobo croaker is primarily a carnivore, feeding on juvenile fish, shrimp, and other crustaceans. It is commercially important in fisheries and is also considered a game fish. Despite its widespread presence, it is currently listed as "Least Concern" by the IUCN, indicating that it is not facing immediate threats
