Description: The African Leaffish, is a small species of fish native to the freshwater environments of Western Africa. This species grows to a maximum length of about 8 cm (3.1 inches) and is highly valued in the aquarium trade for its unique appearance and behavior. One notable characteristic of the African Leaffish is its reproductive behavior. The male builds a bubble nest beneath a broad plant leaf where spawning takes place. The male then cares for the eggs and larvae until they swim freely. However, distinguishing between males and females can be difficult, though females tend to be slightly smaller and have a smaller head. Polycentropsis abbreviata is primarily carnivorous and prefers live foods like mosquito larvae, Daphnia, and small feeder fish.
